MUNICH FABRIC START 2025 – one of Europe’s leading textile trade fairs – took place on 2–3 September 2025 at the MOC Munich. Around 19,000 visitors attended the event, where 260 exhibitors showcased their latest innovations and material developments.

A highlight of this year’s edition was the presence of BIOTEXFUTURE in the SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS area at KEYHOUSE (Hall 2). The focus was on pioneering developments in bio-based and circular materials. At the BIOTEXFUTURE booth, visitors were introduced to forward-thinking projects such as BioCushion, BioPEtex, and CircWool. The BioCushion project provides application-specific guidelines for developing circular spacer fabrics, BioPEtex focuses on sustainably produced, solution-dyed PE-based textiles made from organic raw materials, and CircWool is developing a recycling technology to reintegrate wool waste into the textile cycle.

The SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS platform, curated by Simon Angel, has been a key part of KEYHOUSE since 2016. It offers a stage for emerging designers and innovators who are redefining the textile industry through extraordinary material developments and scalable concepts that address real-world challenges.

As part of the educational program, Nicole Espey delivered a presentation titled “BIOTEXFUTURE – New Textile Bio-Innovations: Outlook for 2025 & 2026.” Her talk explored the potential of bio-innovations in the textile sector and the future directions of sustainable materials, highlighting the three BIOTEXFUTURE projects: BioCushion, BioPEtex, and CircWool.

Overall, MUNICH FABRIC START 2025 once again demonstrated how sustainable innovation is driving the textile industry forward—offering both inspiration and practical solutions for a more circular and bio-based future.
