Consumer Perception on bio-based Textiles 🌱📢
In Nov 2021, we conducted an online survey asking more than 5,500 people in China, Germany, the UK and the USA about their preferences and expectations for bio-based textiles. The result is a wealth of insights.
In a nutshell:
- More than half of consumers claim they would buy a bio-based alternative instead of a conventional product
- Low-sustainable consumers* are hesitant about using bio-based materials (*The 33% of consumers who care least about sustainability.)
- Over 70% of consumers have concerns or are unsure about the sustainability of bio-based products
- 1 out of 4 consumers believe bio-based plastics are a useful solution only if they are biodegradable
- Consumers in the USA tend to only accept comprehensive sustainability solutions (vs. “every small step counts”). Consumers in Germany, the UK, and China are more accepting incremental but frequent steps
